NVIDIA-based Graphics Cards Will Have a Bug in Half-Life 2?
July 20th, 2003 - The highly-anticipated Half-Life 2 game will have a major bug with current DirectX 9.0 hardware resulting in impossibility in enabling Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing, a popular feature that dramatically improves image quality in games. Apparently, there is a limitation in DirectX 9.0 and/or DirectX 9.0-compliant hardware that will not allow the function to be enabled on certain graphics cards if the workaround is not found. Only Real Men Have Fabs: TSMC, UMC, Chartered
July 19th, 2003 - One day the founder and head of Advanced Micro Devices, Jerry Sanders, said: Only real men have fabs . Well, in this case the Big Three of the Asian chip manufacturers including TSMC, UMC and Chartered, really deserve being called real men , as they almost own the monopoly for production of chips of any possible complexity.

Of course, the biggest part of these chips are the chips for electronic appliances of all kinds, which production does not require top-end technologies. And the users of this equipment simply do not know anything about the manufacturers of the chips used in it, the same as any average car owner doesn t actually know, which small company assembled the carburetor for his car. RIAA's Flurry of Subpoenas
July 19th, 2003 - The Recording Industry Association of America said Wednesday it sent out subpoenas to Internet service providers prior to filing lawsuits against hundreds of individuals who illegally distribute songs over the Web.

"This should not come as a surprise to anyone," said an RIAA representative. "Filing information subpoenas is exactly what we said we''d do a couple of weeks ago when we announced that we were gathering evidence to file lawsuits." Read more...
