Many of NVIDIA''s representatives stressed that this event was unlike anything else they have ever done. How you ask? For one, high level people who have been crucial in getting NVIDIA where it is today were more accessible than usual.

This motherboard is the NF7-S rev 2.0 which is the newest revision, revision 2.0 features the new crush 18D nvidia chipset which should allow for better overclocking a a few new features. AMD leaves Intel clutching at CPU pricing straws
October 27th, 2003 - Interesting bit of speculation from The Inq as usual

"IN THE PROCESSOR field, there have been many power shifts over the last few decades. It used to be that RISC chips were the king of the roost, but recently x86 variants are doing more than nipping at their heels. In the x86 world, there was only one name for years and years, Intel. All others copied and tweaked, but few came close. If anyone did, Intel dropped its prices a bit, hitting the competition with the price hammer."

SANTA CLARA, CA OCTOBER 27, 2003 NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, today released NVIDIA System Utility, a performance tuning application for NVIDIA nForce -based PCs and motherboards. Part of the new NVIDIA ForceWare software family, NVIDIA System Utility allows users to fine-tune their PC BIOS and configuration settings for optimal performance, all within the confines of Microsoft Windows , and without the risks normally associated with overclocking.

Designed to leverage the power of the NVIDIA nForce2 and NVIDIA nForce3 media and communications processors, NVIDIA System Utility provides PC enthusiasts with an intuitive interface that allows them to change their current system configurations and also easily obtain information about their hardware components and installed NVIDIA nForce software drivers. For those users who wish to stretch the performance of the PC outside standard settings, NVIDIA System Utility affords them the ability to do so in real-time. Built-in safety features are incorporated which return the PC to normal operating conditions should any issues arise when new settings are tested. The NVIDIA System Utility software interface also provides a feature to save and load user-defined configurations for game and task-specific overclocking, enabling wide flexibility for enthusiasts.

Although discouraged by some companies, NVIDIA recognizes that there are hundreds of thousands PC users worldwide who love overclocking their PCs in order to get as much power and performance possible, said Drew Henry, senior director of platform business at NVIDIA. NVIDIA System Utility was built specifically with those users in mind and allows them to tweak their settings in a safe environment, and share those configurations easily with other users. Enthusiasts looking for the optimal PC solution have recognized NVIDIA nForce MCPs for their cutting-edge features and stability, and the free addition of this great application to our product line-up will no doubt continue that trend.

The NVIDIA System Utility software is available for download today for free from www.nvidia.com. The Last Bout of NVIDIAs GeForce FX 5700 Ultra
October 24th, 2003 - Our introduction to NV36 in the form of the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra has really been a different experience than we expected. We thought we would see similar gains on the 5600 that we saw the 5950 make over the 5900. We also didn''t expect NVIDIA to drop the veil they''ve had on the technical aspects of their products.

Nvidia FX5950 Ultra Review
October 24th, 2003 - The 3d card market has been rocked by a lot of surprises and controversy this year - it''s become a sort of soap opera of the technology masses. What''s become apparent from our reporting standpoint is that Nvidia is beginning to suffer from its position as the top video card supplier in the world, while ATI is winning a lot of hardcore and early adopter confidence with its products: it''s the same Jason versus Goliath story being told on the Intel/AMD front. Is Nvidia really beginning to lose its glitter? Is it becoming the behemoth that no longer respects the hardcore users that it had won over during its early battles with 3dfx? Nvidia doesn''t think so, but the enthusiast crowd has definitely been wooed over by ATI''s price to performance ratio, and many of them are now wary after all the negative press that Nvidia has been receiving.

Doom 3 Capped at 60FPS!
October 23rd, 2003 - According to CEO Todd Hollenshed Doom 3 is in fact capped at 60 frames per second. Why? Read on...

We checked with John Carmack himself about why DOOM 3 will be hard-capped at 60fps in the renderer, and he had this to say:

"The game tic simulation, including player movement, runs at 60hz, so if it rendered any faster, it would just be rendering identical frames. A fixed tic rate removes issues like Quake 3 had, where some jumps could only be made at certain framerates. In Doom, the same player inputs will produce the same motions, no matter what the framerate is."

AMD to Follow Intel with Price Cuts
October 23rd, 2003 - What''s that? Price cuts? Let''s all hope these rumors don''t vaporize.

Intel Corporation set the date of its 26th October''s price reduction quite long ago and there are no surprises that next week Intel will cut down the pricing of some of its processors truly significantly. However, not only Intel, as unofficial sources reveal, will change the pricing of its CPUs early next week. As this Chinese web-site reported, AMD is very likely to follow Intel with its price-cut move. The Sunnyvale, California-based company will adjust the pricing of its higher-end AMD Athlon XP chips, such as AMD Athlon XP 3200+, AMD Athlon XP 3000+, AMD Athlon XP 2800+ and maybe some others. Since lower-end AMD Athlon XP chips pricing is in step with comparable Intel Celeron processors value, I would not expect them to fall in pricing as well, because Intel sources have not reported about Celeron price reductions in late October.

How ABIT's FX5800 sported wiser cooling...
October 23rd, 2003 - The Inq speculates on Abit''s role (or lack thereof) in the FX5800 cooling solution...

ABIT, as one of Nvidia''s partners, produced version of the NV30 card but they decided not to go for the now well-known Dust Buster solution. Rather, the company wanted to go for its own solution based on its own OTES cooling. Well, we all know that all NV30s came from Flextronix and that no one else could change a thing apart from the cooling in the case of the NV30 Ultra, or in the case of the Geforce FX 5800 Ultra, not even that.

Notes from NVIDIA Editor's Day 2003
October 22nd, 2003 - "Yesterday, NVIDIA held an editor''s summit in San Francisco to address a number of common misconceptions regarding its GeForce FX architecture. NVIDIA was uncharacteristically open about what''s going on under the hood of its latest GPUs, and five senior engineers were on hand to answer questions about the FX chips, their drivers, and DirectX 9 and benchmarking in general. NVIDIA also rounded up half a dozen game developers, including representatives from Epic, Gearbox, and id, to sing the praises of not only NVIDIA''s GeForce FX cards, but also the company''s efforts to work closely with developers to optimize game code without having to resort to questionable driver optimizations."

October 21st, 2003 - Check out the mother of all chipset coolers as MODTHEBOX drools over the Swiftech MCX159-R:

Speed Strip - Athlon XP Unlocking Device
October 21st, 2003 - Overclocker Cafe checks out a cool new product for those of you who need to unlock your XP''s without the big mess: Speedstrip!

We have all seen several different models of Athlon XP unlocking kits on the market. They pretty much all include some form of permanent conductive marking, a magnifying glass and a stick pin or something similar to apply your conductive material with. The principle behind the Speed-Strip is that many people don''t want to permanently alter their chip or may be nervous that their hand may be not quite steady enough to connect small bridges on a processor with a pin; so why not make it easier?
