February 28th, 2004 - Here''s an interesting take on the Itanium''s "success" over at Mercury News.

In its biggest strategic mistake in a decade, Intel has spent an estimated $2 billion creating a high-speed computer chip, the Itanium, that most customers don''t want and don''t need.

Once intended to help the Santa Clara chip giant extend its dominance from personal computers to corporate computing, the Itanium has been such a flop that many industry insiders call it the ``Itanic.''''

February 26th, 2004 -
"THOSE OF YOU WHO REGULARLY PERUSE the news here at TR probably saw the item about the Athlon XP-M 2500+ and its recently discovered overclocking potential. The chips have become so popular so quickly that their street price has jumped 33% in recent days. Of course, given the accounts of overclocking to 2700MHz "on air" (using only a heatsink/fan) it''s no wonder they''re so popular.

Needless to say, we couldn''t sit this one out, so last week we ordered up an Athlon XP-M 2500+, and have spent the last 24 hours or so putting it through its paces. Read on to find out more about this overclocking wonder, and see how our particular chip fared."

Zalman Surround Sound Headphones
February 19th, 2004 - We all know the Zalman name for their PC cooling products, but today TwistedMods has the low down on a unique new product from the silent cooling gurus - Zalman Surround Sound Headphones, a.k.a. "Theater 6".

"I listened to music and played games for many hours to put them to the test. After playing Desert Combat for about an hour with my old headphones, I switched to the Theatre 6 headphones. The difference between the old headphones I was using and the Zalman set is like night and day! The speakers create low frequency effects very nicely, especially in Desert Combat. With music, they did perform well, but there was not as much of a noticeable difference as with games. This is because games take advantage of the 5.1 channel capabilities of the headphones, while music is only two channel stereo (left and right), which does not use the true potential of the Theatre 6 headphones."

The first product in this family is the Twin2X1024-4300, a matched pair of 512MB 533MHz 240-pin DDR2 modules. This product has been tested extensively on several different DDR2-based motherboards and is expected to be 100% compatible with the newest DDR2 chipsets and motherboards. Every Twin2X1024-4300 matched pair is tested as a pair in a dual channel DDR2 motherboard at 533MHz to ensure functionality at specified clock speeds in a dual channel environment. The Twin2X1024-4300 supports JEDEC standard 4-4-4-12 latencies, and comes equipped with classic black aluminum heat spreaders.

DDR2, the second generation of Double Data Rate memory technology, includes new features such as a larger 4-bit prefetch and programmable on-die termination (ODT) to reduce signal bounce and improve reliability at high speeds.

This product is among the first and the fastest DDR2 modules in the world. It was designed specifically for gamers, overclockers and enthusiasts who demand exceptional performance said Corsair President Andy Paul.

The Twin2X1024-4300 will be available through resellers worldwide starting in March. The product will also be available as individual 512MB modules in CM2X512-4300.

How things have changed."

MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128
February 18th, 2004 - "If you''re looking for a new videocard, you''re in luck because it''s a buyers market in the mainstream sector!
