Digit-Life Review: Intel Pentium XE 955: Ultima Ratio of the Kings |
December 28th, 2005 - Pentium XE 955 features practically ALL latest advances of this manufacturer: except for the clock, PXE 955 has a 1066-MHz bus as well as 2 (2!) MB L2 Cache per each (!) core. In fact, the resulting monster is sort of an extremum of NetBurst architecture in general. It''s hard to figure out further possible roads of its development: well, at maximum, the clock will be raised by another 266 MHz, getting maximum close to the clock peak of single-core CPUs based on the same core. That is, considering the accented removal of Intel 4GHz CPU from roadmaps, Pentium 4 eXtreme Edition 955 will have only one heir even theoretically. If it will at all. Thus, today we either witness the performance peak, which NetBurst can provide in its perfect dual-core modification, or it''s the very pre-peak. We shall carry out our today''s tests relying on this assumption.

MSI RD480 Neo2 Motherboard on ATI Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition |
December 23rd, 2005 - CrossFire Editions of video cards on ATI Radeon X800 and X850 XT processors have already reached Russian parts; in particular, they can be found in Moscow retail. According to the official ATI announcement, availability of proper motherboards is also a matter of the nearest weeks. Looking through the list of announced Xpress 200 CFE motherboards on the new ATI Chipsets Web Site, we can expect at least 6-7 models for AMD (Socket 939) in our parts. That''s not much compared to a deluge of SLI solutions. But in practice, the choice may be sufficient for those, who have already decided in favour of ATI products and are now waiting for an opportunity to buy a CrossFire system.

Digit-Life Review: Thermaltake XP480 PSU |
December 22nd, 2005 - Today we are going to review Thermaltake XP480 PSU, which is included into the Thermaltake Soprano chassis bundle. Besides, you can find this PSU as a stand alone product in retail. Note that when we tried to exceed the 277W output capacity, all the voltages left the permissible corridor of values. Under 304W load, the PSU switched off in 4 minutes. When we turned it on again in a minute, the PSU switched off in 59 seconds. And came back to life in 12 hours.

ECS 945P-A (2.0) - a Motherboard Based on Intel 945P |
December 19th, 2005 - We got our hands on the second revision of the ECS 945P-A motherboard, which lost some of attractive features of Revision I, thus becoming a budget solution on a modern Intel chipset with potential SLI support. Frankly speaking, such products do not seem expedient. Especially in this case, when i945P differs from cheaper predecessors only in its support for some functions, required in mid and high-end systems. Nevertheless, if you need (or just want) a motherboard on i945 without any excesses, this model will be a very good choice.

Kingston HyperX PC7200 DDR900 1GB Kit Review |
December 13th, 2005 - Being (yet again) the fasted DDR2 modules we have tested up to = date, I have to admit that these HyperX DDR2 900MHz modules proved that = they are the fast. Although the latencies were a bit higher than its = competitor, Kingston puts their main focus on higher speeds rather than = lower latencies. Besides that, the modules responded well with the = voltage but we were a bit dissatisfied to have the voltage increased to = 2.1V to do DDR900. Before we wrap things up, we would like to suggest = that the HyperX PC7200 DDR900 modules were designed for overclockers, as = our results shows. If you plan to buy this kit and run it at default = speeds, you may want to look else where because you have to overclock = your system to get it to perform. Priced at USD199 / RM760, these HyperX = DDR2 modules looks impressive and a quick search shows that these = modules are being sold at the same price, if not cheaper than most = DDR800 modules! Overall, the HyperX PC7200 DDR900 modules offer high = overclockability and best bang for buck!

Digit-Life Review: ASUS Extreme Dual N7800GT 512MB |
December 10th, 2005 - ASUS Extreme Dual N7800GT 512MB is the most powerful accelerator on a single PCB from ASUS, if we can say so. Indeed, there are no faster products so far. I repeat, ON A SINGLE PCB. By the way, can we install two such cards on an nForce4 X16 motherboard? Theoretically we can. Besides, NVIDIA promises to allow four GPUs to work together...
