OCZ Tempest CPU Cooler Review |
|
November 29th, 2006 - While testing on a dual core X2 3800+ AMD processor, we foundthat the Tempest was good enough to allow our system to run at stockspeed. Judging by the load temperatures, we would not expect the Tempestto allow us extreme overclocking, but we could overclock up to 500MHzwhile maintaining temperatures below 60=BAC. If you''re looking for asmall sized CPU cooler that does the job right, the OCZ Tempest isprobably the suitable cooler for you. Priced at $50, the OCZ Tempest isnot too expensive considering that you are getting a CPU cooler withexcellent bundle and bright blue LED fan.

Battlefield 2142 Review: Battlefield 2142 for PC |
November 16th, 2006 -
Battlefield 2142 is worth a look for all of you Battlefield fans out there.
EA Games'' official web site gets right to the point.
"The year is 2142 and the dawn of a new Ice age has thrown the world into a panic. The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the Earth s population. The math is simple and brutal: some will live, most will die."
games xtreme has a review up today covering some of the details.
WoLf offered me, as a fan of EA Battlefield games, the chance to review the latest sequel to the Battlefield family. I have played Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 online and with friends quite a bit and was looking forward to the future.
...Battlefield 2142 comes with a complete new game mode. Conquest is still in the game, but Titan mode brings new tactics on the battleground. Flags on the map have been replaced by missile silos. Capture such a silo and it will launch missiles at the enemy titan every three minutes. The goal is to destroy the enemy titan, before your opponents do so to yours. But that alone wouldn''t be so much different.
...I think Battlefield 2142 is bringing enough to make it worth playing. All the new unlocks, and extras to good teamwork surely make it interesting. But it is hard to say whether it is better than it''s siblings. Once in a while I long back to flying in the old WWII planes, and being the captain on a battleship. And maybe in a couple of months I will start Battlefield 2 for a couple of games. For now I am hooked. I just hope that the annoying issues will be taken care of, starting with the soon expected second patch. That would make it even a better game."

CSS Transparency in Firefox, Opera, IE, and Mozilla |
November 14th, 2006 - This article on CSS transparency explains how to achieve a transparency effect with CSS using a combination of opacity and filter properties.
In the past some Web designers used the Internet Explorer''s filter:alpha attribute to modify the transparency of a page element. Unfortunately this method leaves out everybody using an alternative browser.
Fortunately, browsers have increasing support of CSS, and the opacity and -moz-opacity attributes in particular. Setting all of the properties we have available for opacity and alpha transparency, we achieve a transparency effect that is supported by Firefox, Opera, IE, Mozilla, and others.

What is Ajax? A definition of Web development with Ajax |
November 13th, 2006 - eLanceTalk has offered up a definition of Ajax, and is asking you to join in on the discussion and describe what Ajax means to you.
The question is asked time and time again, and not always clear even to those who are working with Ajax!
The term Ajax is short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. It was coined in 2005 by Jesse James Garrett. Ajax is not a specific programming language or technology. Ajax is a Web development technique. Ajax brings dynamic data interactivity to Web pages. For example, a Web client sorts a column of data, and the data is automatically changed with live server data without reloading the entire page.
The appeal of Ajax is obvious - less waiting for the Web user and a more pleasant and responsive environment.

OCZ EvoStream 6W Modular PSU Review |
|
November 7th, 2006 - The EvoStream 600W is OCZ''s latest modular PSU and it issurely one power packed unit. The overall presentation was good as wereally liked the retail packaging and the attention to detail. The powersupply was well protected and the cables were packed inside a separatebox inside the package. OCZ has a good customer reputation and you getmost of it with the EvoStream 600W as it comes with 36 months exclusivePowerSwap warranty. With a price tag of $195 / RM722, the EvoStream 600Wis quite expensive for a 600W power supply but you can rest assured thatit will last you down the road, considering that it comes with 3 yearswarranty.

Asus P5W64 WS PRO Motherboard Review |
|
November 6th, 2006 - The P5W64 WS Pro comes with a list of features that iscurrently not available in other Core 2 Duo motherboards such as dualGigabit LAN, quad PCI-E slots, heatpipe cooling, eight SATA and supportfor 8GB memory. If you are looking for a feature rich motherboard withunlimited expendability, the P5W64 WS Pro should be in your shortlist.Synonymous with their motto, the motherboard was rock solid and hearttouching! We put it through hours and hours of torture testing, but themotherboard didn''t even once crashed or rebooted on us. Withoverclocking capability up to 429FSB on our little Core 2 Duo E6300, theP5W64 WS Pro has to be one of the top overclocking 975X basedmotherboard in the industry.

Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRSH Review Ninjalane |
|
October 31st, 2006 - The layout of this motherboard is very well designed with quitea bit of detail given to making room for two monster video cards. Ofcourse if you don''t have two monster video cards you''ll get to use theabundance of expansion slots otherwise you''ll likely be down to a single1x PCI Express slot and one regular PCI.

abit Fatalty AN9 3X Motherboard Review |
|
October 30th, 2006 - Overall, the Fatal1ty AN9 32X is a pretty decent socket AM2motherboard. Based on the successful NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI chipset, abithas done a good job with the Fatal1ty AN9 32X. With its red coloured PCBand underbody red LEDs, this motherboard is probably the coolest lookingsocket AM2 motherboards in the market, provided if red is your favouritecolour. The QTES GT heatpipe cooling also worked flawlessly but it wouldhave been better to have the SB heatsink heatpiped as well. We also hadalmost no issues with the board layout but we hate the fact that thespace between the secondary PCI-E slot and PCI slot was too tight. Thiswill be bad news for those who plan to run SLI and pair up a decentsoundcard on this motherboard.

Inno3D GeForce 79GS SLI Review |
|
October 20th, 2006 - The card ran reasonably cool and much of it contributed to themassive overclock achieved with the stock cooling. With almost 50%overall overclock right out of the box, the Inno3D 7900GS is surely nota slacker. You will want to overclock it especially when you understandthat it uses 1.4ns Hynix memory ICs. Overclocking was fun and easy withthis one but we frankly jumped when it outperformed the 7950GX2 beast. In all of our benchmarks, the overclocked Inno3D 7950GX2 was easilyfaster than the rich man''s 7950GX2. If you want to taste some 7950GX2,then get a pair of these Inno3D 7900GS babies, overclock them and youare good to go. By the way, you can always smile at your 7950GX2 buddiesand tell them that you''ve got the same performance for about 100 bucksless!

Thermaltake Ruby Orb CPU Cooler Review |
|
October 16th, 2006 - Well well, the Ruby Orb is certainly not too heavy, not toolight, looks great, and performs decently. Although having a aluminumcore, the performance is still good enough to decently tame down a superhot Prescott, bringing it down lesser than 60 Celsius. I have yet toreceive a pricing detail about this cooler, but I am very sureThermaltake will make it priced decently for the market.

DFI LANParty UT NF59 SLI-MR/G Review |
|
October 10th, 2006 - With vast memory tweaking and overclocking options in theBIOS, the SLI-M2R/G motherboard should make overclocking easy and fun.We managed to hit over 640 MHz memory frequencies when we paired it withsome OCZ VX2 Micron D9s, which broke our own lab records in terms ofmemory speed. At the same time, our Athlon 3000+ also reached slightlyover 3.2GHz whilst on water-cooling only. Nevertheless, the current BIOSneeds a little improvement as we were limited to only 370HTT.

Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe VDIMM Pencil Mod |
|
October 5th, 2006 - A few weeks back, we reviewed the Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe(VER 1.0) motherboard. This motherboard is based on the Intel P965Express chipset and it is the best overclocking motherboard in its pricerange. Clocking in at 472MHz FSB maximum, the TForce P965 Deluxe is adream enthusiast''s board that doesn''t cost a fortune. However, the onlydown turn was lack of DRAM voltage (VDIMM) which was limited to 2.2V(2.15V actual). Luckily, we have a trick up in our sleeves that will putthis board right on track. This Vmod can also be applied to the newerTForce P965 (non-Deluxe) and TForce 965PT granted the layout is exactlythe same. This VDIMM mod is so easy that you need only a sharp pencil, asteady hand and a digital multimeter of cause.

Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe Motherboard Review |
|
September 28th, 2006 - The board has a decent layout but we wish the power connectorsand IDE connector were relocated. This could cause some problemsespecially if you love to keep the cables tidy. Nevertheless, themotherboard worked flawlessly and lives up to its reputation. Afterputting it through over 24 hours of overclocked torture test, the boardis still kicking. Overclocking was also pretty easy and straightforwardas we could easily key in 400MHz FSB and boot straight into Windowswithout needing to bump motherboard voltages. The board also overclockedimpressively as we achieved 472MHz FSB without a sweat

OCZ PC-64 Special Ops Edition Urban Elite GB Kit Review |
|
September 25th, 2006 - The PC2-6400 Special Ops Edition Urban Elite kit is a prettyimpressive DDR2-800 kit from OCZ. The heatspreaders looked sleek and itwould certainly add a touch of uniqueness to your rig. It was originallyrated at 400MHz with 4-4-3 latencies but we had no issues running themover 500MHz. With a maximum warranted VDIMM of up to 2.3V with EVP, wemanaged to achieve 475MHz with 4-4-4 timings, which was not too shabby. In fact, these Urban Elite modules currently hold the fastest records inour labs and were faster than other expensive DDR2 modules we havetested here. Although it required higher voltages to overclock, itallowed us to overclock to 565MHz (DDR1130 - PC2-9040) at 5-5-5 timingsand the system was rock stable even after 8 hours of Prime torturetest. This overclock was the fastest we have seen on any Micron D9GMHbased modules...

Thermalright HR-5-SLI Chipset Heatsink Review |
|
September 21st, 2006 - All in all, the HR-05-SLI heatsink is yet another impressivechipset cooler by Thermalright. It has two heatpipes, a large copperbase and massive surface area designed for passive cooling. Although itwas originally designed for passive cooling, you can always hook a 70mmor 80mm fan onto it and enjoy up even cooler chipset temperatures. Whilewe were utterly impressed with the original HR-05, we were amazed withthe newer HR-05-SLI. Thermalright had certainly put a lot of thoughtinto designing the HR-05-SLI that if installs on multi GPU motherboardssuch as NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossFire. If you have a DFI LAN Party nF4motherboard, this is perhaps the best chipset cooler you can buy foryour motherboard. On our first motherboard, it was 10=BAC cooler but oursecond motherboard recorded a whopping 28=BAC cooler with theThermalright chipset heatsink. If you are looking for the best chipsetheatsink for your multi GPU motherboard, then the Thermalright HR-05-SLIworth checking out. For around $26 / RM100, this chipset heatsink is notvery expensive when compared to other chipset heatsink with heatpipes.
