February 27th, 2006 - Overall, the Epox EP-9GF6100MJ is value AMD64 socket939 = motherboard that comes with decent performance which has quite similar = performance with the GeForce6150/nForce430 motherboard. For AMD fans on = a tight budget, they might consider this GPU motherboard which is = powered by GeForce6100 and nForce430 since it is the first GPU = motherboard series that supports AMD64. The Epox EP-9GF6100MJ costs = around USD79, which is relatively inexpensive for entry level users.

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe - NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 Mainboard
February 27th, 2006 - This model definitely deserves the title of the best gaming motherboard from ASUS. It can be recommended as a basis for an ultimatistic gaming station. But what concerns a wider usage, the A8N32-SLI Deluxe does not seem to have any prospects (as well as any other models on nForce4 S= LI X16), at least as long as customers have to pay for the x16+x16 mode. Fanless cooling of the chipset and the voltage regulator is a very interesting feature, but it does not make this model unique. The overall functionali= ty level of this model corresponds to other top solutions on the market.

HIS IceQ II RADEON X1600 XT iTurbo 256MB PCI-E Based on RADEON X1600 XT
February 21st, 2006 - Let''s examine the new product from HIS, especially as it offers a lot of interesting features along with the X1600 XT properties. It''s a Hong Kong company that specializes in video cards only on ATI processors. It has become very popular in Russia first of all thanks to non-standard but very efficient cooling systems installed on lots of their models.

Darwinia Review
February 21st, 2006 - Gameplay is sometimes overlooked in the gaming industry. Today a lot of stress is put on graphics and now sound. You can have the newest, on-the-fly ray-tracing graphics engine, audio that challenges reality but, without gameplay you lack the common ground that brings the other two together.

Gigabyte GeForce 6150 (GA-K8N51PVMT-9) Motherboard Review
February 20th, 2006 - The Gigabyte GA-K8N51PVMT-9 is the best combination among the = NVIDIA latest onboard solution by using GeForce6150 and nForce430. We = can see that from the testing, the GPU, memory and others performance = weren''t affected much when using the onboard GPU solution. If you are = not a serious gamer and run less 3D intensive games, then you should = consider the Gigabyte GA-K8N51PVMT-9. At least it is one of the top = performance among the other onboard GPU motherboard solution in the = market. The price for the Gigabyte GA-K8N51PVMT-9 is just around 105USD/ = RM400 so you are have tight budget to upgrade your PC on the moment, you = might consider this great value board.

Altec Lansing GT5051 Surround Sound Speakers at ExtensiveMods.com
February 20th, 2006 - Sound has become one of the most upgradeable parts of any computer system. Long gone are the days of variable toned beeps, today, many manufactures are trying to make the computing experience as realistic as possible in the areas of music, games, and movies. Altec Lansing is one such company dedicated to the enhancement and quality of computer audio. Most everyone has seen the traditional 5.1 speaker setup for the PC or home theater that has the 5 separate speakers and a bass box. Well today I''m going to look at the Altec Lansing GT5051 5.1 speaker set which only has 3 separate speakers and a bass box.

SPEC CPU2000. Part 24.
February 20th, 2006 - We have been benchmarking performance of SPEC CPU2000 tasks on various platforms, using the so-called profile-guided optimizations during compilation of test tasks for quite a long time (probably since Intel C++/Fortran Compilers 7.0). We have been using it by default, that is we assume that it will inevitably lead to higher-performance machine code. Nevertheless, it will do no harm to make sure at least once that it''s really true. Take also into account that Intel compilers are initially intended for maximum code performance only on processors from the cognominal manufacturer (it would have been strange otherwise), while we use these tasks for testing competing processors as well . In this respect, our today''s contenders will include two more or less top single core processors from the leading competing manufacturers =97 Intel Pentium 4 660 and AMD Athlon 64 4000+. And now I''ll give a brief account of the optimization method, which is called Profile-guided optimization.

Google Update February
February 18th, 2006 - It''s February 18th, 2006, and it looks like Google is in the midst of a brand spankin new PR update. Is it a tremor in the system, or will we all wake up to new PR''s tomorrow morning? I don''t know, but according to the PageRank Checker at iWebTool, PR updates are appearing on at least 3 Google servers as of 6:00PM EST today. Will it spell good news for you? It has been a long time since the last update, longer in fact than any PR update gap before, so expect some significant changes in the way Google treats your site.

Logitech MM28 Portable Speakers
February 18th, 2006 - If you''re into the portable media scene and have a good MP3 player and maybe even a portable DVD or video player, you''ll know that others often like to get in on the action. But as most of these devices use headphones it isn''t always convenient to share. Logitech has come out with a great little portable speaker system, the MM28, that will help you through a situation like the above. These are powered speakers which can be run off either batteries or an included adapter and they easily plug into any headphone jack on portable media devices!

Digit-Life Review: X-Micro Video MP3 400 MP3/WMA Player
February 17th, 2006 - What are good points? In fact, the only good thing about the player is its price. This model is not the cheapest player, but it''s one of the cheapest. At the time this article was written, the 512 MB model could be found for less than $100, 1 GB model =97 for about $130. Competing models (in price) are available, but... as a rule, they are no better in characteristics Moreover, they often look plain, being equipped with a rudimental monochrome display, maybe even 96x40. X-Micro at least looks better, as it''s practically the only model for this price with a color display (even many more expensive models lack it).

Tagan EasyCon 580W Modular PSU Review
February 15th, 2006 - Overall, the Tagan TG580-U15 is a decent power supply and it = comes packed with feature. The power cables were completely sleeved and = Tagan also took the extra initiative to shield the two PCI-E and HDD = cables. The package was also decent and I really like the high quality = power cord, Velcro and molex protection caps. Nevertheless, it all boils = down to the performance which matters the most. We expected to see more = from Tagan and their TG580-U15 isn''t delivering. Although the +12V rail = was struggling to keep up with our overclocked system, we could run our = system throughout the test without any hick ups or crashes. In fact, = Tagan should deserve the credits as we experience zero system = stabilities issues.

Futuremark 3DMark06
February 13th, 2006 - Indeed, the new benchmark does not have a lot of new features. The hero of this article is solidly based on the good old Mark05. Why not? =96 DX version is the same, changes on the graphics landscape are minimal and come down to two main facts =96 DX9 update in December (it''s rumoured to have SM4 specifications, while the compatible hardware - R600 and G80 - will be available much later, together with Vista) and the announcement of the new generation of ATI architectures that finally support SM3. There are some reservations, vertex texturing for example. Well, even such news is enough for a new version of the mark =96 it should support R5XX and use new DX9 libraries. By the way, the benchmark offers to update them to the December state. Click yes to continue...

Act-On MicMouse & Optical Mouse Review
February 12th, 2006 - It is of my opinion that the ADM 0520 MicMouse is a pretty = comfortable mouse for one with big hands to use. It''s perfect for those = who want to have a decent mic (just don''t click while using it!) for = social chatting. However, for those who are gaming and using voice chat, = I''ll say stay away unless of course, they have a way to completely = isolate the clicking sound. Those who own a notebook and already have a = touchpad may find this a worthwhile buy because if you need to do some = work while chatting you can still resort to your touchpad. Perhaps = Act-On Inc can work on the idea a bit more and make some refinements = (isolate the clicks!!) to make this a totally practical product to buy.

ASUS Extreme AX700 Silencer
February 10th, 2006 - ASUS Extreme AX1800XT TOP 512MB PCI-E is no less interesting than ASUS Extreme N7800GT TOP Silent 256MB PCI-E. In terms of efficiency and performance, this card would have been the most powerful single accelerator before the X1900 series. But even with the X1900, the interest to the X1800 XT should not die, as they will coexist for some time and the price is already dropping. Excellent 2D quality, no gripes with its operation. We should also note an important feature - the card can use its own external power supply unit instead of a system PSU. It will be good news for owners of Middle-End super PSUs, who will be able to power up even this powerful card with its own PSU.

XFX GeForce 7800 GTX/7800GTX XXX 256MB PCI-E on NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX
February 9th, 2006 - XFX GeForce 7800 GTX/7800GTX XXX 256MB PCI-E is a very good product, based on the still popular GeForce 7800 GTX. By the way, even though the RADEON X1800 XT is available in stores, being faster and more promising (according to our tests) than the 7800 GTX 256MB, the latter is still enviably popular.

Digit-Life Review: SCSI HDD Roundup
February 9th, 2006 - This article concludes our comparison of professional Ultra320 SCSI hard drives of the 2004-2005 generation. Now is the perfect time to do it =96 to look back and overview the recent past on the threshold of the advance of professional next-gen Serial Attached SCSI hard drives. Our roundup includes representatives of all modern 3.5 lines with the rotational speed of 10,000 rpm and 15,000 rpm. The scope is even larger, as the current market conditions may introduce unexpected new contenders.

Digit-Life Review: ATI CrossFire Based on RADEON X1900 XT, 2x512MB
February 6th, 2006 - All our readers know well that in the end of January ATI announced a new series of desktop video accelerators - RADEON X1900. The series contains three cards: RADEON X1900 XTX (the most powerful accelerator), RADEON X1900 XT (a tad slower), and RADEON X1900 XT CrossFire Edition. We already examined the first two products. This article will be devoted to CrossFire based on the X1900.

Gigabyte G1975X - Intel 975X
February 3rd, 2006 - As usual, Gigabyte was one of the first to announce a motherboard on the recently announced Intel 975X chipset. Interestingly, it''s not just a top model with a lot of additional controllers and a luxurious (sometimes excessively) bundle. Gigabyte presented its vision of motherboards for extreme overclockers and hardcore gamers ). There is only one model in the G1-Turbo series so far. So it''s too early to discuss peculiarities of the series, but Turbojet will certainly become one of such features.

Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB HDD
February 2nd, 2006 - As computer programs and music/video collections get bigger, the need for more available drive space becomes an issue. Today we''re going to take a look at Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB Hard Drive that not only provides that much needed extra space, but it is also designed to run silently.
