Digit-Life Review: CPU Performance Test Procedure 2005: Drawing a Bottom Line
January 30th, 2006 - Frankly speaking, when we announced our unified procedure for testing desktop x86 CPU performance a year ago, we didn''t know what would come out of it. We had an idea. We had our reasons: It can be convenient and useful from some points of view. We wanted to try this idea in practice and see what would come out of it. Of course, we wanted to do a great job =97 why do it at all otherwise? A year passed. For this year (despite some negative feedback) we had been persistently testing processors strictly according to the new procedure. It''s time to look at what we''ve got.

Silverstone TJ06 Entry Level Server Case at ExtensiveMods.com
January 27th, 2006 - Full tower cases have dominated the modding and corporate marketplaces for years. It is not too often that you see a store bought computer inside a full tower case now is it? If you work inside your PC often, and don''t usually move it around, a full tower case is often a great solution for your PC casing needs. Today I have the Silverstone TJ06 full tower entry level server case.

Digit-Life Review: SPEC CPU2000. Part 23. Four-processor Dual-core AMD Opteron 875
January 27th, 2006 - In our previous reviews we examined various multi-processor and/or multi-core AMD Opteron configurations many times (you can learn the results of these tests in the following articles: SPEC CPU2000. Part 12.1. AMD Opteron: Integrated Memory Controller and Dual-Processor Configurations and SPEC CPU2000. Part 21. AMD Opteron: Dual-processor and Dual-processor - Dual-core Systems). In this article we again return to these platforms, represented this time by the STSS QDD4400 server, based on four dual-core AMD Opteron 875 processors. A very important peculiarity of this platform lies in a more complex 4-node NUMA configuration, which theoretical part was reviewed in this article. And now we shall evaluate efficiency of the 8-core AMD Opteron platform in real computational tasks, such as SPEC CPU2000 suite tasks.

Foxconn Tuckaway Barebone-Kit
January 26th, 2006 - The object of our today''s review, Foxconn Tuckaway, is designed in a desktop PC case, which is very small and slim (it''s just 66 mm thick) =97 it resembles a DVD player. (There is also a semi-official Twister model =97 a desktop that can be installed on its side.) Well, let''s examine barebones from Foxconn.

CoolerMaster Musketeer 3 Review
January 26th, 2006 - Cooler Master Musketeer 3 is a very interesting function panel = with back yellow light analog dial UV meter. Musketeer 3 is not only has = the look but also has decent audio performance using vacuum tube = technology. The front audio output jack is convenient for headphone = users. If you are looking for an attractive function panel, you should = really have a look on this Cooler Master Musketeer 3. Its price is = around 45USD/ RM185 although it is a bit expensive, you won''t regret = spending your money on it, that''s for sure.

ECS PF22 Extreme
January 25th, 2006 - ECS has been keeping i955X in reserve for a long time, never launching a single model on this chipset. Indeed, it''s always difficult to sell the same product for the third time, you must have weighty arguments. To all appearances, the marketing department of this company decided to use certification of this chipset for two ATI video cards in CrossFire mode as such an argument. In this connection, boxes with a previously designed model got the CrossFire Ready logo and these motherboards officially appeared on sale. (In fact, a sample of this motherboard appeared in our test lab long ago, but it was announced on the official web site just a tad earlier than this review was published.)

Digit-Life Review: ATI Technologies' Counter-Offensive Still In Progress: RADEON X1900 XTX/XT (R580)
January 24th, 2006 - R580 is a correction of R520 mistakes. A higher-performance modification of the chip with an increased number of pixel processors (the number of texture processors remains the same), which actually pretends for the palm in competition with the most powerful modification of the G70 - GeForce 7800 GTX 512 running at a higher frequency.

SilverStone Zeus ST56ZF Review
January 21st, 2006 - Pumping out a full 38A on the single +12V rail is no joke and = keeping it up to specifications at high loads during extreme = temperatures is even harder. With efficiency near towards 80%, its no = doubt why SilverStone claims that Zeus ST56ZF the most efficient single = +12V rail PSU in the world. Read more as to why we found that the ST56ZF = was showing numbers similar to the highly priced PCP&C Turbo Cool 510SLI = unit.

TITAN Robela
January 20th, 2006 - Watercooling is always a great benefit to our steamy hot overclocked systems. However, fitting watercooling gear into your case is always a pain. TITAN has made an all-in-one watercooling case that''ll suit all your needs.

Compro Videomate X50 TV Tuner Card Review
January 19th, 2006 - Overall, the Compro VideoMate X50 is a good value card with = many great features which cannot be found at other value TV = tuner/capture cards. The price for Compro VideoMate X50 is around USD48 = / RM180 so you might consider it if you are planning to get a Tv = tuner/capture card soon.

Scythe Samurai Z CPU Cooler at ExtensiveMods.com
January 19th, 2006 - Heatsinks have changed dramatically in the last few years, with heatpipe technology coming to the forefront of high performance heatsinks. The focus has shifted slightly, with a large emphasis going towards ease of install, and silence. Lately, more and more mid range heatsinks have also begun to incorporate heatpipes, and today we will see Scythes version of a midrange heatpipe cooling, along with its patented tool free installation.

Inno3D GeForce 6800GS SLI Review
January 16th, 2006 - The Inno3D GeForce 6800GS sample we reviewed here performed = admirably and considering that it is priced below the GeForce 6800GT, it = simply puts every graphics card in its category into shame. Although the = 6800GS comes with only 12-pixel pipelines, the increased GPU speed made = the 6800GS to perform as good as a 6800GT or X800XL, if not better. = Given that Inno3D was a bit skimpy on the packaging side, we enthusiasts = care less about the packaging as we truly dig for pure performance. = Besides, it helps Inno3D to cut down the retail price which makes the = deal a lot sweeter, but it wasn''t the sweetest...

KickButtComputers.com Preview
January 14th, 2006 - KBC has been a storefront business for the last 12 years. Only recently has KBC decided to go live on the net with their truly one of a kind PC''s. Being fairly old and well established, KBC does not have to rely on the kid from down the block or the neighbor from down the street working in their shop, rather, they employ well trained and highly regarded professionals. These folks are craftsman or artist; however you want to define them I''m sure they won''t argue. KBC was started by PC modders, and continues to be run by them.

Sapphire RADEON X800GT AGP 256MB, X800GTO AGP 256MB, X800GTO2 PCI-E 256MB
January 14th, 2006 - Each time we touch upon Sapphire, one and the same phrase comes to my mind - all is well. Yep, ATI suffers, wins, loses, triumphs, trembles, rejoices. And its Partner Number One just keeps working and manufacturing a lot of video cards. Today we are going to review seven cards from Sapphire! Two of them are AGP cards. We have recently published our 3Digest for November 2005, where we reviewed X800GT/GTO AGP among other cards. Just these very cards from Sapphire (two of them) took part in the tests. Ratings, calculated according to our procedure, show that both products are in top ten, thus they can be popular among those users who don''t want to give up their platforms with the AGP interface.

Digit-Life Review: Intel 945P/G Motherboards Roundup
January 10th, 2006 - The first results of our roundup of motherboards (sometimes even engineering samples) on the new series of Intel 945/955 chipsets turned out to be ambiguous. Of course, new models with beta BIOS versions have a right to be slow. If a chipset is much faster than its competitors, it will have almost no effect on the results. But according to our tests, in case of Intel 915(with DDR2)/945 and Intel 925/955 pairs, this condition is not met, so the new motherboards were just slower than the old ones. Now, over six months afterwards, all manufacturers have released BIOS updates for their products on i945/955. So I think we may speak of the final performance results. Thus, here is a roundup of four motherboards on i945P and one model on i945G with the latest BIOS versions.

Digit-Life Review: AMD Athlon 64 FX-60: Good Processor, Bad Name
January 10th, 2006 - Despite its intriguing name, AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 is nothing more than a higher-clocked modification of our old acquaintance =97 Athlon 64 X2 4800+. The difference comes down to the clock: two cores in the Athlon 64 X2 4800+, equipped with 1 MB L2 Caches, ran at 2400 MHz, while the new Athlon 64 FX-60 has the same cores running at 2600 MHz. Thus, the new Athlon 64 FX takes up a strange position in the updated line of AMD processors: it equals FX-55 in terms of a single core clock (that is slower than FX-57), but it has two such cores instead.

Asetek WaterChill Xtreme 12V Pump-Reservoir Review
January 8th, 2006 - Overall the Asetek WaterChill Xtreme 12V Pump-Reservoir is a = great pump for water cooling. It has good performance and high flow = rate. Besides that it comes with great software to monitoring and = controlling the pump, fan, temperature thus this feature is yet to be = seen on other water cooling pumps. However its price is our main concern = because it costs a whopping USD130 / RM500! Add another 50 bucks more = and you can get a complete water cooling kit for that price. Anyway we = still recommend it to you if you are on the look for the best water = cooling pump, in terms of performance and design. It''s totally up to you = to decide if it''s worth to spend that much on a pump alone.

Coolink U8-120-1600 CPU Cooler Review
January 8th, 2006 - Overall, the Coolink U8-120-1600 is a superb CPU cooler. It = comes with four, 8-way copper heatpipes and a larger copper base which = are the basic aspects of a powerful CPU cooler. The package was complete = and everything was in the package, including a fan controller. Being one = of the largest CPU coolers we have tested up to date, the Coolink = U8-120-1600 may not be for everyone, especially if you have a smaller = casing. Being a relatively new player in the CPU cooling market, Coolink = has earned our respect and we believe more reviews will be popping out = with great recommendations.

Samsung YP-T8Z 1 Gb Mp3 Player
January 8th, 2006 - It seems the trend lately that Mp3 players, like cell phones are becoming more than a one function portable device. Many manufacturers are now bundling other capabilities such as video play back, voice recording and FM tuners. Today we take a look at multi function MP3 player called the YP-T8Z from Samsung. This Mp3 player not only plays music but can play back video, display pictures, text, and even has some built in games.

Gigabyte GeForce 6600 DDR2 256MB SLI Review
January 8th, 2006 - Gigabyte GV-NX66256DP2 is NVIDIA''s latest GeForce 6600 series = graphic card and we would like to conclude that it is another great = value graphics card from NVIDIA. By changing the DDR to DDR2, the = performance has been increased significantly. Futhermore, Gigabyte = GV-NX66256DP2 is a totally silent graphics card using the Silent-Pipe = cooling technology. Although it supports SLi, it is not really wise to = run an SLi configuration as getting a single high end graphics card = offers a better price versus performance ratio.

Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro Review
January 2nd, 2006 - Having said that the previous generation Freezer was having = tough time keeping dual core processors cool, Arctic Cooling went back = into their labs and came up with a juiced up version of the Freezer. = Dubbed as Freezer Pro, the CPU cooler now comes with triple 6-way copper = heatpipes, larger aluminium fins and a very innovative cooling fan = design with suspension. Supporting only Intel socket LGA775 (Freezer 7 = Pro) and AMD socket 754/939/940 (Freezer 64 Pro), the Freezer Pro is = targeted towards high-end dual core desktop processors and hardcore = overclockers. Read the full review to know more about Arctic Cooling''s = latest heatpipe CPU cooler.

Gainward PowerPack GeForce 7800GTX 512MB Golden Sample, 7800GT 256MB Golden Sample
January 1st, 2006 - Gainward PowerPack GeForce 7800GTX 512MB Golden Sample is currently the most powerful and the most expensive gaming accelerator. And the Gainward PowerPack GeForce 7800GT 256MB Golden Sample is a mid product from the Hi-End sector, if we may say so. We are going to review these products standalone and in SLI mode along with a new 580-watt SLI-Ready Hiper HPU-4R580 PSU.
