IT Unemployment Hits Record High
An InformationWeek analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics employment data shows unemployment among IT workers reached 5.23% last year, up from 3.72% in 2001.

Unemployment among IT workers rose to a record 5.23% in 2002, according to an InformationWeek analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment data, up from 3.72% in 2001. Still, IT professionals were more employable than their counterparts in most other fields, as overall unemployment last year rose to 5.8%, from 4.7% in 2001.

The article explains some of the reasons but the real reason is anyone who can use ms paint is now selling themselves as an is professional. People with a solid understanding of current technology are still able to work in most markets. However the people who are ms paint experts are suffering.... sure having a cisco cert doesn't automaticly mean you will earn 70k/year anymore but hey nothing lasts for ever |

I might not have been around forever, but it seems like the average capability level of many of the people I have to deal with in IS is at best, scary. If this is some indication as to the types of people being hired in IS then I couldn't agree with you more...  |
